Partnering With the Places Where History Happens

About Stono History Consulting

Stono History Consulting works with museums and historic sites to collaborate with communities of people who have a stake in preserving and interpreting our shared past and historic landscapes. In addition to planning and developing interpretation, Stono History Consulting creates and delivers customized training programs in interpretation and facilitates the National Association for Interpretation's Certificate of Interpretive Guiding workshop.

 Ethical Interpretation

The work of Stono History Consulting is grounded in the Principles for the Ethical Interpretation of History. These principles help museums and historic sites build confidence and prepare to integrate under-represented and often mischaracterized histories into their interpretation. The principals address how ethical interpretation is crafted and how it impacts people. As a result, groups and organizations have accessible tools and resources to confidently and sustainably interpret the past.

My Story

I am a public historian, museum consultant, and interpretive planner. I collaborate with people to preserve and share history following my eight principles for ethical interpretation. My work centers on building relationships between organizations and stakeholders to integrate and deliver relevant interpretation of the past, including stories that have publicly been left untold. I believe museums and historic sites are spaces for cultivating curiosity and places for all to learn without judgement or exclusion. I am committed to facilitating opportunities for people to learn from one another and to better understand our shared past.
